Frequently Asked Questions

What are your hours?

See our home page. Remember, the cat lounge room is closed daily from 1–3pm so we can clean and allow the cats to rest!

What is the reservation fee for the cat lounge room?

Adults (age 23-54): $20 per hour.

Students (age 8-22)/ Seniors(55+) /Veterans: $15 per hour (** Sorry, no kids under age 8 in the cat room. **)

Is there an age limit to enter the cat lounge room?

Yes. For the safety of our guests and cats, children must be at least 8 years old to enter the cat room. Babies in strollers or carriers are allowed but must not be allowed to interact with the cats.

Why do I have to pay to enter the cat room?

The Lazy Cat Lounge is providing the cats in our care with a clean, safe, cage-free, caring environment where they can live their best lives OR await their forever homes through adoption! We provide food, litter, cleaning supplies, daily care & valuable socialization to the cats to help take some of the burden off of our rescue partners. We have 4 resident cats who live at the cafe full time.

Adoptions are facilitated by our shelter/rescue partners who collect all adoption fees. One dollar from every cat lounge admission is donated back to our rescue partners. In the end, we're a small business with rent, insurance, utilities, staff salaries & many other bills to pay. We hope you visit and find the experience worth your time and money!

What is your cancellation policy?

Cat lounge visits may be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours advance notice. Full refunds will be given if you cancel prior to the 24 hour window. Our new booking system will not allow us to issue refunds if you cancel within the 24 hour time window. Sorry, no exceptions.

What’s the best way to book?

The best way is through our online booking system. If you walk in and we happen to have an opening, we can reserve it for you, but the cat room fills up very quickly! We can take reservations over the phone, however it will likely be faster to book online when possible.

What can I do in the cat lounge?

Lots of things! You can take pictures, bring your book or coloring book, work on your laptop (we have Wi-Fi), crochet—whatever you do in public that’s safe around cats!

However, you must follow the rules on how to treat the cats! This includes, but is not limited to, not picking them up or roughhousing with them, poking them, grabbing their tails, using laser pointers, giving them food or treats or generally being mean to them. We will ask visitors to leave if we feel they are harassing or mistreating the cats.

Can I volunteer?

While we appreciate your offer to help, the Lazy Cat is NOT a non-profit and therefore cannot accept volunteers. However, our partners at the Lowell Humane Society have plenty of opportunities to volunteer. Click here to read about volunteering!

How many cats will I see?

The number varies as cats are adopted and new ones are introduced. We have four resident cats in the cat lounge who will always be onsite. Remember, they may be using the litter box and out of sight.

The cats are all sleeping. Can you wake them up?

During your visit the cats may be sleeping, eating, using the litter box, or just chilling. Domestic cats sleep 12-18 hours per day. They are most active in the morning and later in the evening, so choose your visit time wisely! Remember, cats are gonna cat!

Do you have Wi-Fi?

Yes! The password is posted on small signs in the lobby and cat room.

Do I have to book the cat lounge to use the café?

No. Everyone is welcome in the café whenever we’re open!

Can I bring my coffee and snack into the cat lounge?

Yes! Please don’t feed the cats and kindly remove your trash when you leave.

Can I split my ticket with my friend?

Yes, if you’ve both signed the waiver.

I love this cat! How can I adopt him/her?

Some of our cats are permanent residents. Our adoptable cats are available through the Lowell Humane Society. Please speak with staff if you are interested in a particular adoptable cat.

Can I adopt a cat?

Some of our cats are permanent residents. Our adoptable cats are available through the Lowell Humane Society.

I can no longer keep my cat. Can you take them?

Lazy Cat Lounge is NOT a non-profit/501(c)(3) organization, so we cannot accept cats directly. However, our partners at the Lowell Humane Society are available to help you. You can mention that you're interested in seeing them come to the Lazy Cat Lounge and they will consider if your cat is appropriate, (gets along with other cats, is spayed/neutered etc.)  Click here to learn how to surrender a cat.

Can I bring treats to give to the cats?

No. Thank you for thinking of them, but unfamiliar treats can upset their tummies.

Can I bring my own cat or dog into the cat lounge? How about the café?

Outside cats and dogs are not allowed in the cat lounge room. However, service dogs and cats in carriers or strollers are welcome in the cafe/gift shop area.

I’m pregnant. Can I go into the cat lounge?

We take all reasonable precautions to ensure a clean and healthy environment for our cats and their guests. The cats are screened before admission and regularly checked for diseases. The litter boxes are contained and regularly changed, and the space is regularly deep-cleaned. Guests must disinfect their hands before and after their visit.

That said, cats can carry diseases that are more dangerous if you’re pregnant. If you’re aware of the potential risk of zoonotic diseases, particularly toxoplasmosis, use your best judgment about visiting. Every visitor must sign our waiver.

Can I privately rent the cat lounge for an event?

Yes, if you book the entire 10-person time-slot. Please speak to a manager if you have questions.

Can I book a child’s birthday party?

Truthfully, kids may find the cat lounge boring. All visitors must be age 8 or older to enter the cat lounge. Children ages 8-13 must be accompanied by an adult & supervised at all times. The cat lounge is not a lively party place! The cats tend to sleep a lot. They are most active in the morning and later in the evening, so choose your visit time wisely! Please speak to a manager if you have questions..

Can I bring my baby?

Babies who are confined to a carrier, baby sling or car seat are allowed. However, we do not allow active toddlers/children under 8 years old to enter the cat lounge. All children are welcome to visit the cafe/gift shop area where they can safely view the cats through windows into the cat lounge. â€‹
